85 high school juniors participated in Missouri's forty-seventh annual Missouri Electric Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. June 11-17. Local delegates sponsored by Southwest Electric Cooperative were (from left): Landon Isabell, Warsaw and Jessica Covert, Halfway.

The statements have been mailed for members paying their electric bills on a yearly basis with a due date of May 10th.  If you have not received your yearly bill by the first week of May, please contact one of the cooperative offices for assistance.

Do your part and complete the Census forms in 2010.  Since the days of the founding fathers, the U.S. Census has taken a snapshot of America every 10 years. Each decade a new portrait of our country provides insight into the diverse and ever-changing population of the United States and directly affects how more than $400 billion per year in federal funding is distributed.

There is a new E-Biz option available when viewing your online account history. Members will now be able to view their DAILY USAGE from the Account History section of the E-biz site. Simply scroll down to the daily usage portion and enter a date range to view. You will also have the ability to view it in a horizontal or vertical format with the actual reading and kilowatt usage displayed.

When outside temperatures drop, it is common to turn up the heat in your home. However, because heating costs have been rising, many are looking for a more cost-effective way to heat. You may have heard claims that purchasing a “magic” space heater will slash your electric bill by up to 50 percent, or that you can heat your home for pennies a day. As the senate begins debate on its version of a climate change bill, the nation’s electric cooperatives are asking them to include guarantees that new legislation will not cause electric bills to skyrocket. Armed with more than 500,000 postcards sent in by electric cooperative members urging senators to protect rates, representatives of the nation’s member-owned electric cooperatives recently converged on Washington, D.C., to deliver that message personally.

On September 28th, the first delivery, containing more than 57,000 postcards calling for fair and affordable electricity, were delivered to Senators Bond and McCaskill.  The postcards were developed as part of the Our Energy, Our Future campaign, allowing Missouri consumers to voice their concerns about the impact of

Act now to help prevent increases in our electric bills.  You can tell members of Congress they must step up to keep the EPA from using the Clean Air Act to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.  Congress never intended for the EPA to use the Clean Air Act to regulate carbon dioxide.

The 69th Annual Meeting of the members of Southwest Electric Cooperative was held on Saturday morning, September 19, 2009. The meeting was held in the Mabee Chapel on the campus of Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri.
